This plugin actually comes standard with your Wordpress installation. You will have to get a Wordpress.com API key to make it work, but after you do it’s pure bliss. This will help keep spam comments away automatically! Akismet is smart enough to put suspected spam into a separate folder, and it even learns from you as you go. You should always activate this plugin for the best results with your blog. It saves you a ton of time too!

Linking to different pages in your blog from every page is a great search engine optimization tactic. The problem with blogs is that it can be so hard to dig through old posts that are related and manually link them in your new post. Related posts solves that problem! You’ve probably heard the term “SEO”, and may, or may not know what it means, and more importantly, understand it.

That’s ok.  My best suggestion is that you do not try to absorb and master SEO at this phase if you are brand new at blogging.  It’s something that you can learn, over time, and implement as you go.

For simplification, it stands for “Search Engine Optimization”, and it is how the search engines, and spiders, read your site and then translate into a viable link to be placed in their directories.

Wordpress Blogging – What is a Permalink?

A permalink is a piece of code that you can add to your blog to create user friendly URLs for your blog posts.

Now, it is not possible to change the URL of a blog post on just any blogging platform. On a Wordpress Blog it is not only possible, it is also extremely easy to do.

The Wordpress.org software platform enables you, the blogger, to have a self-hosted blog.

Wordpress Blogging  – Why do I Need A Self-Hosted Blog?

The benefit of having a self-hosted blog is that you have complete control of your blog. You control how your blog looks with your choice of theme and you can choose a domain name (URL) that is search engine optimized.

Another benefit of a self-hosted blog is that you control your content and you own your content because it is on your own server and not on someone else’s server. Your blog can never be shut down without your knowledge or approval.

So back to permalinks, after a short digression to Wordpress.
